Do you know what all the different options are when it comes to transporting a vehicle? Most people don’t really have an idea. Well, we can fix that!
For example, you can choose to move the car yourself. However, this is time-consuming and driving for thousands of miles wears out the engine. You can also pay for a professional driver. Still, you will not be able to avoid the wear and tear on the car, not to mention the additional costs.
Today, we are going to take a deeper look at that service. We will learn what it consists of, and what makes it different from other car shipping services. That way you can make an educated decision next time you have to pick an auto transport option. Let’s see what door-to-door transport is all about!
How door-to-door auto transport became a thing
Today’s world is all about convenience. We want to waste as little time and effort as possible. So the majority of industries are looking for ways to make their services more accessible. One could even think that a service, such as auto transport, should be all about convenience. Interestingly enough, things were quite different in the past.
Not so long ago the most popular car shipping service was terminal-to-terminal auto transport. With it, you have to drop off your vehicle at a terminal, where it stays until a carrier picks it up. Then it gets taken to another terminal, from which you have to receive it.
While the process sounds simple, it has rarely been convenient for people. Firstly, you do not see the carrier at all. The car can stay at the terminal for an unknown period of time, and you can hardly do anything about that. Secondly, having to drop off and receive your vehicle at fixed locations is a huge hassle. This is especially true for remote areas, where no terminals are close enough.
All these issues caused auto transport companies like Corsia Logistics to come up with a different solution. We decided on the one change that would have the biggest impact on the service – door-to-door pickup and deliveries.
What door-to-door auto transport is and what it is not
The door-to-door service does sound fairly self-explanatory, and yet there are some things that confuse people. My goal right now is to get rid of misconceptions and set the record straight. That way you can know exactly what you get with such a service.
First and foremost – door-to-door is not exactly a literal description of this auto transport. Sometimes it is virtually impossible for a carrier to get right in front of your house. In certain cases, it can be against the law for a big truck to park at your desired spot (e.g. residential areas).
In these kinds of situations, our carriers will come as close to the specified destination as possible. Of course, you will be contacted should this be the case. Keep in mind that this only occurs in specific situations. In many cases, our carriers would indeed park right in front of your doorstep.
Another thing I have to point out is that door-to-door does not mean instant pickup and right-away delivery. You still have to book the carrier in advance. Once all slots are booked the carrier will start picking the vehicles up. For that reason, we always require that you give us a time window of a couple of days when you will be available for pickup.
Finally, door-to-door only describes the logistics part of the service. However, it has nothing to do with the type of carrier. For instance, such shipping is available for all of our carrier types, including open and enclosed transport. For California deliveries, you can even request Corsia’s own single-car carrier, which makes the service even more convenient. Speaking of which…
The advantages of door-to-door auto transport
You can find many benefits to this kind of transport. It is the best choice for most people, not only in comparison with terminal-to-terminal shipping but also with non-carrier options (e.g. driving the car yourself). Let’s see some of the benefits below!
- You get to meet the carrier personally
With terminal-to-terminal transport, you do not see who picks up your car and where it is placed. That means you cannot ask them of estimated delivery times or really anything. With door-to-door auto transport, you cut the middleman.
Your contact will be with both the shipping company and the carrier. That way you can see how your car is being loaded. You can even give minor handling instructions if necessary. All in all, this kind of service gives you peace of mind.
- Expedited pickup and delivery possible
Sometimes you have to hurry up with your tasks. We completely understand that. Here door-to-door transport has the upper hand as well. If you are in a hurry, you can get expedited shipping, instead of waiting for a spot. This adds another layer of convenience to the service. It can be a bit more expensive, but when you are pressed for time it is an irreplaceable option.
- It is cost-effective
You may think that terminal-to-terminal auto transport will be cheaper, but that is not the case. Why? Because with terminals there are additional fees you have not considered. For example, there can be a storage fee for your vehicle until it gets picked up. Depending on how long it takes for a carrier to get fully booked, this fee can become quite substantial. With direct pickup and delivery, you would avoid all that.
- It is a huge time-saver
Even though you still have to book a carrier, you will not waste any time during the process. You will not need to figure out secondary transport to and from the terminal. The carrier will be coming straight to you! At worst, it may be a couple of blocks away, but that is not nearly as troublesome.
- You can track the carrier
Door-to-door transport makes it easier for you to track where the carrier is. Just ask the company, from which you have booked the service (e.g. Corsia Logistics). That way you can quit the guessing game and know exactly where your vehicle is. Even if you do not care about that, at least you will know that once you get it on the truck, it is already on the road!
When is door-to-door transport not a good choice?
Considering all the advantages this type of transport has, you may think that it is always the best choice. However, in certain situations, you may actually prefer terminal-to-terminal shipping.
One such example is when you cannot be present for pickup or delivery. If you cannot get anyone to hand your car off, you will be better off leaving it at a terminal. A similar situation would be if you are sticking to a strict personal timetable and would prefer to receive the vehicle on your own time. However, you should keep in mind that storage fees do pile up, and you may be better off going with expedited shipping.
With that said, even if you have a very specific case that would require terminal-to-terminal shipping, it is still a good idea to check your other options as well. Remember that you can always call us with any car shipping questions you may have. The experts of Corsia Logistics are ready to guide you through the entire auto transport process.
